List of Top 10 Christmas Movies to Watch on Netflix
Christmas movies can range from heart-warming masterpieces to beautiful musicals. Here, we will list all the good Christmas movies on Netflix that we believe will embody the holiday spirit perfectly.Â
1. Klaus:
In a small town far back in the north called Smeerensberg, there is a mysterious toymaker, Klaus, known for his acts of kindness and toy-making.
Together with his best friend, a postman named Jesper, they recreate the myth of Santa Claus, which ultimately brings the city together just before Christmas.
Directed by Sergio Pablos, this Oscar-nominated movie has a dazzling voice cast, including Jason Schwar Mictzman, JK Simmons, Rashida Jones, and his final film role, Norm Macdonald.
This 1 hour and 38-minute movie has beautiful animation, but that’s just for starters. A human and sincere way of presenting Santa Claus, this rollercoaster of love, grief, and joy is bound to put a smile on your face.
2. A Boy Called Christmas:
With the reindeer Blitzen and a loyal pet mouse, young Nicolas sets out on a fantastic journey in the snow-covered north to reach his father, who is trying to discover the mythical village of the elves, Elfhelm.
This origin story of Santa Claus is full of breathtaking scenery, aesthetically pleasing costume designs, and a little amount of humor and tragedy now and then to make the movie all the more enjoyable.
An amazing part about this movie is how it seems to give a backstory to so many things in the story of Santa but still manages to put the whole thing in a different perspective than usual.
Under the direction of Gil Kenan, the amazing cast of actors such as Maggie Smith, Joel Fry, Sally Hawkins, Toby Jones, and Kristen Wiig brings the movie to life. Henry Lawful’s performance as young Nicholas is incredible throughout the movie.
The music of Dario Mrianelli adds a lot more emotion to the movie while keeping the Christmas spirit intact. You can count A Boy Called Christmas as one of the best Christmas movies to watch this holiday season.
3. Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square:
When the rich Regina Fuller returns to her hometown to kick the residents out and sell the land to a mall developer on Christmas Eve, who can stop her but the one and only Dolly Parton (Yeah, everyone loves her, including us )? Let us be frank with you.
This Christmas movie sends its viewers a message of pure love and kindness, and we enjoy every second of it.
Directed by Debbie Allen, this Christmas Journey has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie.
The cast of this movie is some great actors/actresses, namely Christine Baranski, Mckenzi Brooke, Jennifer Lewis, Jeanie Mason, and many more. Did we mention that this movie has 14 new songs from our favorite singer? Well, now we did.
4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas:
A childhood masterpiece among Christmas movies by Ron Howard; just remembering this Christmas movie will make you smile.
Jim Carry, as the Grinch, with his dog Max, tries his best to spoil Christmas for the residents of the small town of Whoville in this adaptation of the Dr. Seuss children’s tale. This movie just radiates Christmas and its festive fever by being bright, funny, and over the top.
With a cast such as Jim Carrey, Jeffery Tambor, Bill Irwin, Clint Howard, and Molly Shanon, not to mention the wonderful narration of Anthony Hopkins, no less, this movie becomes just too wholesome.
How Grinch Stole Christmas is the kind of movie you just keep revisiting every year, maybe because of the sweet nostalgia it brings with its every character, maybe because you will love Jim Carry as the Grinch, maybe both.
That is why this movie’s vibrant, humorous, and somewhat dark undertones make it all the more heartwarming.
5. The Princess Switch:
Another happy and colorful Christmas movie, The Princess Switch, more than deserves its place on this list. When a baker, Vanessa Hudgens, goes to a European village to attend a baking contest, she meets a princess from a royal family who looks just like her.
Well, what happens next? They switch places, of course!! It’s a classic fairy tale, but again, classics are classics because they work, and so does The Princess Switch, quite wonderfully.
Nick Sagar, Sam Palladio, Sara Stewart, Chris Jarvis- you name it, everyone seems to nail their roles here. Not to mention, both the roles of Vanessa Hudgens are played perfectly.
There are no life-changing lessons, deep plot, or settings, just a cheerful, funny, and light love story that gets even more dazzling with the costumes and scenery.
6. A Very Murray Christmas
On the night of his live show, Bill Murray enjoys the night with his friends, different visitors, and the hotel employees. Our favorite, Bill Murphy, gives us a movie of pure laughter and merriment in this masterpiece.
What’s better? This movie is filled with celebrity cameos of famous faces such as George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Jason Schwartzman, Charlize Theron, Tom Hanks, Johny Depp, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, and many others.
As for the movie itself, it is delightful under Sofia Coppola’s direction. Watching the carefree Bill Murray bickering in his way is bound to improve our day.
7. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
A story of coming out of loneliness and a dislike for holidays to a long-lost family and the happiness that came with their happiness, Jingle Jangle a Christmas Journey is uplifting, really, really wholesome, and most importantly, original, even among its peers.
An inventor, Jeronicus Jangle’s life is only going downhill after the betrayal of his apprentice Gustafson, and the death of his wife is about to get changed forever as his granddaughter suddenly comes over, a sweet little thing with an imagination that can even reach the stars.
The role of Journey was made for Madalen Mills, and you can’t convince us otherwise. Forest Whitaker as Jeronicus and Keegan Michael Key as Gustafson were as good as it gets.
Phylicia Rashid, as the grandma of Journey, deserves a special mention here. John Legend, with his beautiful tunes, is phenomenal as well.
There is a whole bag full of reasons as to why you will love this movie, some being the fact that the Victorian city and mesmerizing clothes and voices make every second majestic, be it the simple optimism that lies at the heart of this movie, or the original concept of this movie ( we mentioned the originality twice because it’s that good).
In short, sit with your family and enjoy this rollercoaster of a heartwarming holiday movie.
8. The Christmas Chronicles:
Talking about Christmas movies and not mentioning The Christmas Chronicles is almost a crime in our book. Well, it is not much of a secret that teenagers are scary.
So it is a surprise to none of us when the siblings Teddy and Kate prepare a master plan to capture Santa Claus on their camera.
But in the end, it is the Santa Claus they have to team up with to save Christmas.
Let’s talk about the characters now. Firstly, of course, comes our Santa Claus. As the siblings, Darby Camp and Judah Lewis were perfect for their roles, and so was Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus.
With that super realistic bear and aesthetic, Kurt Russell is Santa Claus, and we are not taking arguments, thank you.
This movie goes deep while juggling the elements of happiness, grief, and the true meaning of Christmas, about how we slowly forget what Christmas means in our lives.
It goes from two siblings trying to catch Santa to how they end up being the ones who save Christmas. Truly, it is a perfect holiday movie to watch this Christmas Eve.
9. The Holiday Calendar:
What happens when you get a magical advent calendar that can predict everything about your future, even your dating life?
Well, The Holiday Calendar has the answer to that question. Kat Graham is the holiday photographer who doesn’t like her job and wants a real studio for herself; she finds love thanks to her antique advent calendar, or does she?
Director Bradley Walsh presents us with a sweet Christmas romantic comedy without many complexities, which is probably one of its main attractions. Our thoughts? It’s one of the best Christmas movies on Netflix.
10. Operation Christmas Drop:
When congressional aide Kat Graham has to miss out on Christmas for a humanitarian project called Operation Christmas Drop, where the US Air Force decides to help the residents of Guam’s islands, it doesn’t look good for her, especially because her task is to convince her boss not to fund this project.
But can her dazzling guide, Alexander Ludwig, show her around to rekindle that spirit of unity of Christmas tens of thousands of miles away from home?
One of the recent, well-rounded, perfect holiday movies for the whole family, this movie reminds us why distributing happiness among others presents us with so much joy ourselves.
Helping those less unfortunate than us brings a sense of unadulterated bliss to our minds. Hats off to all the men and women of service who are in this movie; we are forever grateful for their work.
In the End
We hope you find a movie to your liking from this list. This list has the most animated movies for kids to watch, but adults can also thoroughly enjoy them as they have meaningful and heart-warming content. You can choose your favorite movies after watching the trailers.
Nothing beats just starting to watch a Christmas movie in the holiday season, be it Christmas classics, some recent rom-coms, or a pure-hearted animated movie. Having your family beside you, truly enjoying the moment’s bliss, and a cup of hot chocolate is all we can ask for this holiday season.
